Hillel Sports
The Hillel Sports program provides vast opportunities for Jewish students to connect through a love of sports and fitness. In addition to sponsoring participation in the University intramural sports program, Hillel independently sponsors ice hockey, ultimate frisbee, yoga, outings to professional and collegiate sporting events, krav maga self defense classes, exercise groups, socialization centered around viewing sports on television, and a year long competition against in-state rival Michigan State Hillel.

Good Sports
Good Sports is a new community service project designed to help fund Detroit inner city youth sports programs for underprivileged youth. This initiative seeks to raise money through $1 donations made by Michigan students participating in Intramural and other sports activities. In addition to fundraising, Good Sports will be organizing field trips in the hopes of connecting its members with the children in Detroit they are serving. Because Michigan students are afforded the fun of sports participation as part of their college experience, we believe that students will feel personally connected to this project since it provides underprivileged children the same kind of opportunity. For more information, please contact or staff advisor, Michael Spitulnik, at msputnik@umich.edu.
Ice Hockey
The Hillel Ice Hockey team presents a unique opportunity on the U-M campus. Since 2004, the University has gone without an intramural Ice Hockey program. Since that time, Hillel has sponsored a Jewish Ice Hockey team that competes in an independent university league close by at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube. As a result, each Sunday, Hillel students are afforded the chance to continue their ice hockey participation and meet new friends. To get skating, contact Hal Kominsky at , Dan Abrams at danielhb@umich.edu, Ben Wolf at benawolf@umich.edu, or staff advisor, Michael Spitulnik, at msputnik@umich.edu.
IM Sports
The Hillel IM sports program includes participation in over 10 team sports through the University's Intramural Sports program, such as broomball, softball, basketball, volleyball, football, and inner tube water polo. The program offers the opportunity to meet and connect with new Hillel friends or submit your own team of friends. To get involved, contact David Braid at or staff advisor, Michael Spitulnik, at msputnik@umich.edu.
Kaufman Cup Competition
UM Hillel competes against in-state rival MSU Hillel in a five sport, year long competition known as the Kaufman Cup. This event represents an incredible opportunity for Hillel students to take part in this storied collegiate rivalry as competitors rather than spectators. Last semester, each Hillel came away with a victory. Michigan Hillel was victorious on the soccer field and came up just short on the gridiron. Upcoming Kaufman Cup events include basketball, volleyball, and ultimate frisbee. To join the tradition, contact Dougat or staff advisor, Michael Spitulnik, at msputnik@umich.edu.
Krav Maga Self Defense
Each week, students come to Hillel for a taste of Israeli culture by learning effective Israeli self defense techniques from a professional krav maga instructor. Krav Maga will be on Sundays. Date and time for fall semester TBA. There will be 8 sessions this semester. $5 per class or $30 for all 8 classes. Classes will be 10 people maximum. People who pay for all 8 lessons will get priority and then others can join on a weekly basis based on the number of spots available. For more information, contact Allison at .
Ultimate Frisbee
Students with a passion or simply a passing interest for Ultimate Frisbee have a home here at Michigan Hillel. During the fall and spring seasons, Hillel students have created a weekly pick up style ultimate frisbee contest on Palmer Field. Following play, students have a chance to connect with each other over a Sunday brunch. To get playing, contact us at .
Yoga
A great workout for the body and the mind. Each Monday and Thursday, Hillel offers Yoga classes right here in our Hillel building. Yoga classes are taught by Rachel Portnoy, a professional local yoga instructor from A2 Yoga. Classes are $5 for students and mats are provided. In addition, Hillel offers free late night restorative yoga during our 24 Hour Finals Study program. To get in downward dog with Hillel, contact Tilly at .
